In a small town in New Hampshire, there was boy named Chris Wallace. Chris has two brothers and sisters. His family didn't have much money, but they managed to get by. When Chris was little his father always asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and Chris's answer was always to be a general manager for a professional basketball team. All of his friends say he will never shine, but Chris knew he would prove them all wrong, but for now Chris has to focus on school. Even though Chris gets A's in school he has to keep that through college if he wants to get a scholarship in business. Chris also plays football and his coach always recommends Chris to play college football . Its a hard decision, but he has four years to decide. By high school Chris is determined to become the manager of an NBA team. One way to prepare is to study NBA players by looking at there statistics and bio. This would give Chris a good idea of what players he might want to trade if he becomes a general manager. By the end of high school he has to decide if he will attend college to become a business man or get a scholarship to play football for Penn State. Its a hard decision, but Chris knows in his heart that he should be a general manager. One day Chris is walking down the boulevard when a group of teenagers, a little bit older than Chris, walked up to him and pushed him back to the tree near the sidewalk Chris was walking on. One kid spoke up and said “ You think you will be a manager for a professional NBA team?” “That will never happen!” and all of them start to laugh and point fingers. Chris ignores their laughter and just walks away. While walking home Chris wondered why they were making fun of his dream, “I will prove them wrong!”, Chris said to himself. One day after school Chris came home to find his mom crying on the couch. Chris runs up to her and asks “Whats wrong?” “Its the house there taking it away!” Chris's mom said. “Why” Chris asked. “ We couldn't pay the rent for the house in time, the bank took it” Chris's mom said. Chris was concerned and thought to himself, how am I going to get into a college when my family has no money? His mom needs $12,700. Then it hit Chris. He should start a basketball summer camp for young kids. Parents would pay oodles of cash for there kids to go to a basketball camp. Basketball is also very popular in Chris's town, so he knows he will get business. Chris asks his friend Julio to be a counselor for the camp and will split the profits with him. Julio agrees with the terms. Chris decided to place the camp at the middle school parking lot, where there is three basketball courts that are never used. A perfect place to set up a camp. On June 6th Chris and Julio's camp is finally open and ready for business. The first week was great, his camp flourished and was on the front cover of the town newspaper, which attracted lots of attention. Chris and Julio made about $3,000 in 3 weeks. By the end of July, more kids started to arrive each day. Chris and Julio started putting up signs on telephone poles telling everyone to check out the camp. By the end of July, Chris and Julio made about $9,000. Chris knows that he's so close to his goal and he knows he's come a long way, so he's not stepping down now. His business is now starting to slow down a little and Julio needs to get reading for college. All they need is $3,700 more. In the middle of August, the leaves start to fall and school is just around the corner. Chris has about $12,900 and just needs 800 more dollars, but Chris still owes Julio $100 for helping Chris with his camp. There are only about ten kids at Chris's camp and school is in two weeks. Chris keeps saying to himself “how am I going to make 900 dollars in two weeks?” When his camp closes he runs home to his room to find anything valuable he can sell. Chris remembered When he was little he loved baseball cards, so he ran up to the attic and found this brown cardboard box that was labeled “Chris's toys”. When he opened the box he found a stack of vintage baseball cards. The following day Chris walked to the closest pawn shop to see if they have any interest in his cards. As they evaluated his cards one of the managers raised his eyebrows at a Mickey Mantle card and said “wow”, which indicated to Chris that the card was very valuable. The pawn shop offered Chris $1100 for his stack of cards. Chris was shocked that his cards were so much, now Chris has more than enough to pay the mortgage for his house and pay Julio back. When the pawn shop manager handed Chris the money, he ran home to tell his mom the good news. His hard work in school and dedication to teaching kids how to play basketball got Chris accepted at Boston College. During college, he got an internship with the Boston Celtic which helped pay for college. His job was to help the coaching staff with any need they had. After college Chris became a full time employee with the Celtics. He was the assistant to the general manager, Adrian Pierce. While working with Adrian, Chris learned the techniques of becoming a good general manager. when Chris gets out of college, he feels like he can conquer the world. Three weeks later a man with a deep voice calls him on his cell phone and says, “Chris, would you like to general manager for the Boston Celtics?” Chris is speechless. He will love to be the new General manager for the Boston Celtics. This is what Chris was waiting for since he was in kinder garden. Finally his dream came true! Ever since Chris was a little boy, he knew he wanted to be a general manager of a professional basketball team. He did everything he could to make that dream come true. His family did not a much money and had a hard time paying the mortgage, but Chris helped out. Kids would make fun of him for wishing for such a lofty goal. Chris was determined to see it through, he focused on doing summer camps, college, Celtic internship, and eventually landed a full time job with the Celtics. As the eventual general manager, Chris Wallace went on to help the Celtics win two NBA titles and is highly renowned in the NBA.
